If everything is design, then nothing is design TRIBUNA
Tribuna
In 2024 during the Design Week in Milan, together with a French philosopher Aurele Pavie, and a Mexican designer Esteban Clisson, I took part in a project entitled “Tribuna”. Esteban designed a letter box inspired by Ettore Sotsass’ Casablanca Shelf which we then defined as “enabling artifact”.
Aurele developed this theory referencing Jean-Paul Sartre’s existentialism arguing that “everything is design.. And if everything is design, then nothing is design”. With this enabling artifact we went around different design exhibitions (uninvited), placed the letter box next to the door and we started to be approached by designers and enthusiasts. We would then start a conversation about the meaning and mission of design, and if they wanted they could write their opinion on a piece of paper and insert it in the letter box.
At the end of design week, we then collected these pieces of paper and Aurele started to write Tribuna’s manifesto.
